Where the heart,
art, and soul meet

THE ARTIST'S
STORY

In the alleys of the Mea She'arim neighbourhood in Jerusalem, amongst the ancient stones, stands the Jerusalem Gallery. The gallery aims to be a platform for the best visual art that expresses the longing for Jerusalem and the future rebuilding of it.

The Gallery was founded by Barchi Horen, a Judaica artist from Jerusalem whose love and longing for the city has a global reach. Barchi is known for her oil paintings of the Holy land and the old city of Jerusalem. Her paintings are an expression of her own emotions and a reflection of her longing for the city that gives each artwork a dimension of infinite depth.

Barchi grew up in Jerusalem, surrounded by the precious stones and mountains of the holy city. Her artworks carry a deep emotional connection articulating joy in Torah (Simchat Torah), the longing for Jerusalem, the sorrow of its destruction and the hope for its rebuilding. These emotions fused with her technical skills create Judaica type paintings of a Hachnasat Sefer Torah, the Western Wall, The Stones of Jerusalem, and the Dancing of Simchat Torah.

Barchi’s artworks adorn the walls of people from all over the world that love and miss the holy city from afar. The gallery hosts some of the most acclaimed Jerusalem artists –who can recreate Jerusalem in textures and colours to help people from all over the world feel the deep longing that is pounding within all of us as it is said “Rebuild Jerusalem the holy city speedily in our days.”

longing

When a painting creates a feeling of longing for Jerusalem, you know it is art. Our artworks decorate the walls of homes around the world of people who want to feel the yearning and longing for Jerusalem, anywhere, and at any moment.

happiness

Jewish happiness is the truest joy; and when it bursts onto the canvas with a brush, colour, and shape, it creates such depth in the artwork that the heart is moved. The artworks we present express the joy of Jewish life. It could be the joy of Torah in a Hachnasat Sefer Torah, the cheerful dancing in an authentic Jerusalem wedding, or the excitement of a couple under their Chupa. Everything about Jewish life revolves around Jerusalem and symbolizes a host of emotions such as joy, hope, longing, and bursting happiness.

ambition

Our aspiration when we see a tzaddik is to be like him and reach his attributes. Our artworks express the emotion that emerges from the figure of a tzaddik on a canvas. It could be his joy in the Torah, the radiant light and his comforting smile that embraces you and makes you want to be like him. You will want to see such a picture in front of you all the time.
